1. Fundraising - Wisdom In Fundraising - Part 1

The fundraising industry has many different organizations and methods. Here are some tips from the perspective of a planner.  Whether planning a fundraiser for a school, charity, church, political, or other organization there is a psychology to this.  Once the psychology of fundraising is realized, then the next step is to develop a successful fundraiser.

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF FUNDRAISING

Fundraising does not simply focus on making money, but on building relationships with the people whom you are interested in inviting to invest in your fundraiser.

- It helps to be quite knowledgeable, sincere, and passionate not only about fundraising but also that which you are doing the fundraising for.  This will come across in the way you are able to develop your fundraiser including gaining the interest of others who you are hoping to invest in your fundraiser.

- According to this below video, when people invest in your fundraiser, it is a transfer of confidence, so you need to help them to understand why they should care about this product/cause/service, and how it relates to them.  They will then naturally want get involved.

This is why being aware of your fundraising subject is important.  If you are not persuaded, neither will your targeted investors be.  One may say as a planner, you may not necessarily need to like or be passionate about your fundraising subject.  This may be true if it is a onetime fundraiser, but if it is a repetitive one, that may become taxing to find new ways or ideas on having a successful fundraiser.

Please enjoy the video below from Peter Diamandis ( http://singularityu.org/about/board-of-trustees/dr-peter-diamandis/) of the X PRIZE foundation (http://www.xprize.org/).  It is centered around entrepreneurs, but applicable to various types of fundraisers.

We will continue on in Wisdom In Fundraising for our next fundraising segment.

As I read the above, it has made me realize I need a mental shift in how I approach organizing a fundraiser. Thank you for the insights

Hi Steve,
I believe successful fundraising is definitely based on the approach, starting with your mental approach. Building relationships and having confidence transferred in these relationships so others can believe in what it is you are trying to achieve is important. Thank you for stopping by.
